I collect tiny mushrooms from my home in Michigan and dry or press them in books to later add to my art. The lovely stripes are much brighter in resin, similar to the iconic and colorful turkey tail.
This species is Trichaptum biforme - commonly called Purple Tooth Polypore Fungus. Rather than tiny pores, the undersides are covered in spiky teeth. When fresh, these fungi have a warm purple color on the edges and underside. This fades to vanilla and eventually brown with age.
I crafted this necklace with complementary nature-colored beads and added a pearl drop charm from an antique earring.
